Through honest dialogue, trust will be built; we will experience a greater freedom in asking the questions that need asking; and we will learn that we are not alone in wrestling with our questions. That is the purpose of Frequently Asked Questions. God can handle our questions. Learning to live the answers will be our greatest challenge. We will not get final answers or achieve total resolution for many questions regarding God and our faith, but I believe that our interaction is worth both our time and energy.
Please feel free to submit questions you have and I will do my best to triage them, consolidate them and then respond to them in a thoughtful and timely fashion. The blog on this site will be the primary forum for my responses.
In the interest of creating a fair and honest process, allow me to be up front and honest about the kinds of questions I am most likely not to answer. I am not saying that these questions do not deserve to be answered. I know that God is secure enough to handle all our questions, but there are some questions that I am not inclined to answer:
- Questions regarding the purpose, meaning and use of the book of Revelation or other apocalyptic passages for understanding our current political, cultural, economic or global situation. Jesus, Paul and Peter on different occasions expressed their reticence for dealing with the particulars of times and dates. That is good enough for me.
- Questions regarding alien beings, other galaxies and/or planets where other civilizations may exist. I don't think that Jesus, Paul or Peter would have answered those questions either.
- Questions about celebrities and or other media personalities and their views on politics, culture, economics, religion and/or the world at large. I readily confess that the continual furor over various celebrities (LeBron watches and Farve watches) has me confused. I guess I missed the announcement that we solved the problems of world hunger, poverty, AIDS, and climate change so we are now free to move on to more important topics.
*Disclaimer: I also reserve the right to be confused by other questions that are not on this list.
