Welcome to the website. Allow me to introduce myself and provide you with some explanation of the site's purpose and goals.
I am the son of two South Carolinians who paused just long enough during graduate school for me to be born in Texas. Like my birth, most of my life has been lived on the move. Over the past 54 years I have lived off and on in six states and one foreign country. Along the way I managed to obtain a first class education from The Citadel (B.A. History), Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Div.), Baylor University (Ph.D.) and The University of St. Andrews, Scotland (Research). These institutions did what they could for me and I accept full responsibility for any lingering deficiencies. While in graduate school I managed to trick a creative, intelligent and beautiful woman into marrying me and we have four grown children and one very precocious grandson. I currently serve as an associate pastor for North Phoenix Baptist Church in Phoenix, Arizona while also teaching as an adjunct professor for Fuller Theological Seminary. Prior to this gig I served as a tenured professor and college dean at a small Christian liberal arts university. My vocation, i.e. my truest sense of who I am in terms of calling and purpose, is to be a teacher. I love learning and I love students. The dynamic, messy and challenging interaction that takes place when learning happens energizes me.
My vision for this site is that it will create opportunities for history and theology to become a resource for conversation and a catalyst for change. Simply put this site's purpose and goals are directly related to you and people like you who first encountered me via my Christian history podcasts and then contacted me with questions related to Christian history and theology and a sincere desire to better understand God and or your own faith tradition. A dedicated, skilled and professional team of friends/colleagues worked to make this site a portal for hosting my podcasts as well as providing other materials and resources in a way that would create an opportunity for us to have an actual conversation. As you navigate this site please share with us your thoughts regarding ways we can improve the access, content and delivery.
